Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery, Inle-Lake


Nga Hpe Kyaung Monastery lies in the North of Ywama Village, built on stilts on Inle Lake. It is the biggest and oldest wooden monastery in the Inle region. It was built on stilts on the lake in the 1850s. It has a numerous ancient Bagan, Shan, Tibet and Ava-style Buddha images

The monastery is very famous for its cats trained by the monks to jump through small hoops like in a circus. Visiting the monastery by boat tour, you will see the cat show, held many times a day.

Outside the monastery, you can sit and enjoy an amazing view to the tomato farm with mountains at the background.
