Iconic Inle's Cuisine

Inle Lake is located in the heart of the Shan Plateau, and famous for the local simple houses of wood and woven bamboo on stilts besides the floating market where people cultivate some trees in this. The first, we come to and visit the morning market, with many kinds of fruits, vegetables, and other foodstuffs. People from hill tribes such as Pa-Oh, Intha and Shan people come here to trade their handmade wares and farmed goods. Be surrounded by the looming Shan Mountain, the people living here completely adapt to circumstances, with all activities maybe occurred on the face of lake. They move on boat to floating garden for cultivating, and harvest, and other villages so that boat become the main transportation in this area. We will take a boat for travelling, with full conveniences including cushioned seats, lifejackets, umbrellas and others depending on the season, blankets in the winter as an example.

On the boat, we continue to explore Shan tofu in Khaung Daing Village and on the boat, you can see the local fishermen use the leg-rowing with their maturity and virtuosity. You maybe not only taste Shan tofu - a special local dish including fried tofu crackers and other tofu treats, but also watch the process of making it. Your culinary tour will continue at the local house of an Intha family to learn how to prepare a traditional style lunch with the local ingredients. Some techniques is very useful for your life, weather you are not Intha people.

We have this lunch and come to Maing Thuak Village and reach to the final destination: Nyaung Shwe. It is an exciting sightseeing trip due to the views of sugar cane, corn and vegetable farms on the side of the road. Stay overnight in Nyaung Shwe.

This day, in the tour exploring the local cuisine, of course, will start up with a delicious breakfast. Nyaung Shwe is located in a few kilometers north of Inle Lake and we will discover here on the canal. A little time will be spent for sightseeing and observe locals running their boats to and from the lake before continue to visit the local market. This market is the trading point of this area where indigenous people come from nearby villages in colorful dresses buy and sell everything, including foodstuffs and handmade wares. Then, halt at a tea shop for a cup of sweet tea, along with some donut and a savory snack maybe.

Leave the tea shop, we travel around the Tomato House, which is a depot for the majority of produce from here used as the storage before transfer them in many ways to other shires. Special point coming at the latest time of tour is visiting Red Mountain Estate, one of Myanmar's top vineyards of the Pah Oh hill tribe, developed from the sample of the grapefrom France to make wine. It is a completely leisure trip with the picturesque grounds and vines inside the beautiful sight of Shan Mountains and Inle Lake.
